2nd Annual Ex-Prisoner Lobby Day Brings Currently Incarcerated People and Advocates Together for Change

May was a POWERFUL month at TSJP as advocates, community members, and directly impacted people came together for the 2nd Annual Ex-Prisoner Lobby Day!

This year’s lobby day centered on two critical pieces of legislation that would help formerly incarcerated people build stability, opportunity, and a stronger future:

  • HB 180 — Restores voting rights for people with felony convictions and removes barriers such as literacy tests and durational residency requirements.

  • HB 133 — Creates an “ability to pay” process so judges can waive or reduce certain fines and fees for people who meet specific criteria, including people who are currently or formerly incarcerated.

Throughout the day, attendees met with legislators, shared personal stories, and advocated for policies that support successful reentry and reduce barriers facing formerly incarcerated people and their families. The event highlighted the importance of ensuring that people returning home have access to opportunities, stability, and a voice in their communities.

Ex-Prisoner Lobby Day is a collaborative effort between formerly and currently incarcerated people, their families, Veteran Services, Home Teams Chosen Ones, ACLU of Delaware, PIRCOD, and other community partners committed to advancing justice and second chances.
